Inconceivable Theatre is proud to offer a selection of Oscar Wilde Fairy Tales
directed by Patricia Ansuini to entertain the whole family, while also providing
poignant and pointed morals in a truly Wilde style.
By mixing and matching the following four tales in a concert reading format, we
offer great flexibility for your event. Actor talk-backs are also available.
All tales adapted by Tony Dobrowolski.
THE DEVOTED FRIEND is the tale of little Hans and Hugh the Miller. Little Hans
is a hard-working, generous and fiercely loyal man. Hans doesn’t have much in
the way of worldly things, but rejoices in his beautiful garden and helping it to
thrive. Hugh the Miller is much better off than Hans, in terms of wealth and
possessions, but puts his own needs over those of anyone else. Hugh knows
what friendship should be “in theory.” Hans knows what friendship means. By
the tale’s end we learn which is truly THE DEVOTED FRIEND.

THE NIGHTINGALE AND THE ROSE tells of the real meaning of love. Love isn’t
always things. Love is often what one person is willing to sacrifice for another.
The Nightingale is so impressed with the love the Student says he feels, that
she is willing to do anything to help him win the object of his affections. Judge
for yourself whose understanding of love is most true.

THE REMARKABLE ROCKET is the story of unbridled ego and self deception. If someone thinks that the world truly
revolves around them, they will, without a doubt, be surprised when reality sets in. Everyone should feel good about
themselves. But if feeling good about yourself means making the rest of the world feel inferior, the tables can turn.
Every performer needs an audience, but if they alienate everyone around them, their genius won’t matter at all.
Running time: 25 minutes
THE SELFISH GIANT is a tale of sharing and isolation. Possessions by themselves are as empty as a walled garden. It is only
in giving that one can share both beauty and joy. The smallest kindness can blossom into something wonderful. You never
know when a kindness might be returned…or how.
Running time: 9 minutes
